Toronto Transit Commission Green Bus Program
The Toronto Transit Commission’s Green Bus Program identifies a procurement strategy to transition the fleet to become zero-emissions by the year 2040 by expanding the fleet to maximize the use of electrically powered buses. The use of electric buses requires that “eBus'' Charging Systems be deployed which charge up to 200 buses per garage at the same time.
The purpose of the Arrow Road EBUS conversion project was to achieve this increased power requirement and the scope of the project included providing generator backup power for the EBUS units in the event of a power outage.
Scope of Work
The project scope included the Design, Installation and Commissioning of a turn-key project for TTC, which included a 6MW natural gas, 4160V outdoor generator substation, scalable to 10MW. The generator substation, including synchronization and Toronto Hydro connectivity, was created as an outdoor-rated substation. The generator plant comprised 6 generators and was installed in parallel at TTC’s Electric Bus Facility.
