McMaster University Life Sciences Building Renewal Master Plan and Research Greenhouse Addition

Masterplan for the rejuvenation of all existing Mechanical and Electrical systems serving the Life Sciences Building. As part of the masterplan, infrastructure renewals/upgrades included ventilation systems, heating and cooling, plumbing and drainage, fire protection, controls, electrical distribution, lighting, and fire alarm system.
The new 11,000 sq. ft. greenhouse addition to the existing McMaster Life Sciences building includes a large 2-storey greenhouse and both large and small research cells. Mechanical systems include a new ground source heat pump geo-exchange system dedicated to the greenhouse with parallel interconnection with the existing campus central plant. Infrastructure upgrades included the replacement of the existing incoming high voltage normal and emergency electrical switchboard and tie into the campus network, Steam and condensate system upgrades, new incoming firewater services and fire pump to facilitate future masterplan goals as well as washroom renovations to support universal accessibility.
