41 Division Toronto Police Headquarters
TORONTO, ONTARIO
The new 41 Division will provide a modern and efficient workspace for the Toronto Police Service, serving the community for decades to come. The new building and public spaces will provide not only a sense of welcoming, but opportunities for greater community connections. Extensive community engagement with area residents and community agencies helped inform the design of the new division’s public spaces such as the large multi-purpose community room, the outdoor event plaza and landscape planters / seating, spaces allocated for public art, and increased planting of shade trees and culturally significant plant material, to name but a few.
In response to the goal being set forth by the City of Toronto to require City Agencies, Corporations and Division-owned facilities to be Net Zero Emissions by 2023, 41 Division will be the first building within the Toronto
Police Service facility portfolio that is designed in compliance with the Zero Carbon Building Standard. The building will also feature a large green roof and solar panels to assist in reducing energy consumption. The existing and new 41 Divisions will be demolished and built in phases, respectively, to allow for continued and uninterrupted operations of the existing 41 Division.
Quasar was part of the project delivery team that prepared the design and construction documents for the multi-phase renovation project of an existing building to facilitate the Toronto Police Head Quarters known
as 41 Division. This project was completed in the traditional design-bid-build construction methodology which Quasar was a part of from start to finish. The renovation is comprised of approximately 65,000 ft2 of interior space that was retrofitted to meet Net Zero Carbon emissions standards. The new 41 Division includes program areas for operational office space, locker rooms, detention/cells, firearm storage, interview rooms, administration space, community meeting areas and underground garage parking for approximately 250 vehicles and a sally port.
