Paul Stephens
Sector Lead
Paul Stephens is an accomplished mechanical designer with seven years of experience in the construction industry. While Paul has worked on projects across various sectors, he specializes in the design of science and research facilities, including animal holding facilities, virology research, pathogen mitigation and controls, and flexible laboratory design. He has expertise in designing Containment Level 2 (CL2) and Containment Level 3 (CL3) facilities, as well as working with Specified Animal Pathogen Order (SAPO) Level 4 pathogens.
Paul began his career in 2015 with a large multidisciplinary engineering firm in the UK. He quickly rose to prominence, becoming one of the youngest senior engineers in the company, thanks to his significant contributions to the growth of the science and technology sector, particularly in the design of human-centric research institutes.
Before moving to Canada, Paul played a key role in designing some of the most cutting-edge, world-leading facilities in the UK and the Middle East. Notably, he completed a secondment in Doha, Qatar, for the SIDRA Medical Research Facility. He was also instrumental in the design of UCL’s Institute of Neurology/Dementia Research Institute in London, which included animal holding areas, MRI suites, wet and dry labs, and patient-focused healthcare spaces. Additionally, Paul has contributed to several other large-scale, confidential research facilities in the UK.
