Lakeridge Accelerated Long-Term Care Facility

The project, located adjacent to the Lakeridge Health Ajax Hospital site, consisted of a new 275,000 sq. ft. 6 storey building accomodating 320 resident bedrooms along with a detached five storey parking garage. Key design features included evidence-informed infection prevention and control measures, a modern design, and care planning that prioritizes residents’ quality of life including all private or semi-private rooms, a nine station dialysis unit, a specialized behavioural unit with access to a secure rooftop terrace, and specially designed rooms to support bariatric resident needs.
Other enhancements provided to improve infection prevention and control and facility resiliency included 100% outdoor air ventilation systems and full facility emergency power backup. The new LTC facility exceeded its project specific energy target by achieving a 30% reduction over OBC SB-10 requirements.
