DECIEM – 15 Fraser Microbiology and Clinical Research Laboratory

DECIEM’s existing heritage building serves as the primary employee headquarters in Toronto, showcasing the building’s vintage architecture and layout, which was to be grandfathered into the design of a new Microbiology and Research laboratory on the ground floor. A new 15,000 sq. ft. laboratory was designed for product analysis and testing containing Type B2 biosafety cabinets, incubators, storage fridges/freezers and sterilization autoclaves.
New mechanical HVAC systems and controls were provided to serve the wet laboratory and research areas, which were designed in conjunction with the projects increased air changes, on-floor pressurization regimes, humidity & temperature control and air purity requirements. As part of the product testing and analysis processes, a new pure water (reverse osmosis)system and piping distribution was also provided to serve the laboratory’s equipment and point-of-use faucets.
