Lakeridge Gardens Accelerated Long-Term Care Home
Scope
Lakeridge Gardens is a new state-of-the-art, 6-storey, 275,000 sq. ft., long-term care home with 320 beds, developed under an accelerated build pilot program built next to the Ajax Pickering Hospital. The facility includes a nine-station dialysis outpatient unit and provisions for a five-story parking garage. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for improved and increased capacity of long-term care facilities and drove the 18-month start to completion schedule. The entire facility is provided with 100% fresh air, with no recirculation of any air within the home, and designed to maintain the building between 40% to 60% relative humidity. Both reduce the spread of airborne pathogens and mitigate the risk of future pandemic events. The facility is provided with 100% emergency generator power backup, allowing the home to remain fully operational in a power outage in the hottest days of summer or the coldest days of winter. New network-based IP and PoE systems were included to improve communication between all facilities on the Lakeridge Health Network. Access Control and CCTV were integrated with Lakeridge Hospital central monitoring for increased security and response times. A new touchless card access system for all entry and critical areas shifts away from the traditional approach of keypads and physical keys, and a new innovative approach to patient entertainment allows residents to have a variety of options for wireless and television service through a Rogers distributed system architecture via fiber optics.
