McMaster University Life Sciences Building Research Greenhouse Addition

Scope

106,000 sq. ft., 5-storey renovation of the Life Science Building (LSB) and creation of a new 11,400 sq. ft. greenhouse for McMaster University’s Department of Biology.

The project includes the connection to the Main Campus’ central plant chilled water, steam, and electrical services, and the implementation of a geothermal cooling/heating system to further support its commitment to sustainability and carbon reduction.

The project also includes the option to utilize solar-thermal energy to charge the geothermal field. The project is designed to a minimum LEED Silver certification and is required to achieve a minimum annual energy consumption saving of 25% when compared with the Model National Energy Code for Buildings (MNECB).
